THE absence of an ambulance has always been one of the major challenges at the Gerehu Hospital, an official says.
National Capital District health authority (PHA) chief executive officer Steven Yennie said the hospital was the second largest healthcare facility in NCD.
“Situated in Gerehu Stage 4, the hospital not only serves people from within the city but parts of Central and Gulf as well,” he said.
“Since the hospital became a provincial hospital in 2017, it has been without an ambulance which is a vital service that all major hospital should have.
“However, thanks to the Moresby North West development authority (DDA), the hospital now has one.”
Yennie thanked the DDA and local MP Lohia Boe Samuel for the donation of a new ambulance last week.
He said the ambulance would be used to provide medical services to the people in the electorate and would be of great help towards improving services at the hospital.
Samuel said the ambulance belonged to the people.
“This is your ambulance but I appeal to the hospital to fully utilise it in bringing the best medical services to the people when needed.”
