Amean seeking release

PAPUA New Guinea Kumuls flyer Stargroth Amean says he remains hopeful of securing a release from the final year of his deal with English second-tier side Barrow Raiders.
The 28-year-old told The National that he had decided to seek cutting off a two-year deal to be with his young family in PNG.
“I’m not involving the PNG Rugby Football League and the SP Hunters to negotiate for me. I’m seeking a release on my own,” he said.
“There is no way I will go back this season as my family’s welfare is my priority. I just want to cut short my two-year deal to be close to my wife and son.”
In the meantime, Amean is training with his former team the SP Hunters to keep fit.
The Engan was recently selected in the National Capital District Commission-sponsored Port Moresby Vipers for match fitness in the Digicel Cup.
“This is our semi-professional competition and I have to play for the city franchise to keep myself fit and in-form,” Amean said.
“I’m happy to be in the Vipers team to boost the morale of the players for the 2020 Digicel Cup campaign.
“I know I have a contract with the Raiders and cannot sign a new contract with Hunters.
“We should come to an understanding for them to release me rather than keeping me in suspense.
“I’d love to go back and play for the Raiders but that is not possible as my family’s welfare is my first priority.”
The 2017 Intrust Super Cup premiership winner said starting a family had given him a different perspective on life.
“I’ve to take care of my wife and son. Being around them every day makes me happy,” Amean said.

  • It’s fine and good if you really care for your family and want to be near them. But you have signed a contract overseas and imagine the impact your decision not to return would have in future PNG players wanting to play overseas. You have talent but attitude and professionalism unfortunately are lacking. It’s a pity to say that but unfortunately most PNG players seem to have that same kind of attitude. So thanks to people like you there won’t be any more PNG players going to England or elsewhere to play. The solution is simple. You should remain in England, fulfill your contract but under the condition that they bring over your wife and your family. Otherwise forget about being a professional player. Because being professional implies that you have to sacrifice your time, your freedom, and yes sometimes even your family. Because you want to lay a good foundation for your family. If you can’t do that then go and play footy in your village.

  • Just ask the Raiders to accommodate for you family and all of you can go down to England.

  • Don’t set a bad precedent for up and coming PNG players who would like to go to England. Please, go back and play for the club you signed your contract with and end it on a good note. Ask the club to send your family with you. Otherwise, your decision will set a really bad precedent for up and coming PNG players..

  • Why did you have to sign contract here and there without prioritizing your goals and interest? Its the taxpayers money that raised you up to this level of recognition. One way or another you are answerable to the fraternity, fans and people who’s tax money is used to promote rugby league. Get some rest if you are not too sure of what to do in life!

  • This is unacceptable

You have hairs on your body and you are acting like a chiild

If you want to be a man….start behaving like one.

  • It is believed there’s some other motives behind him that resulted in such. This is his Golden opportunity and wouldn’t cut off his contract. The only amicable solution is to arrange for his family to stay with him in England & continue play by his contract terms…

  • It was the rugby- skills on field in the semi professional games in PNG and playing for Kumul in the international arena has convince the club management who have decided to pick you to play for their club in England. Before signing the contract with Raiders club you should have read and understood well the terms and conditions on your contract before signing. The reason of you missing your family in PNG is very shallow and there is a real reason behind you to leave the Raider’s club in England and return back to PNG. Your rugby fans in PNG might think otherwise but also talent PNG who would want to get to England to play for clubs at the professional level will not look good of such a decision.

  • You got recognition because you are playing professional games. Otherwise you would be just like rest of us.

That was an opportunity. Make hay while the Sun is still up there in the sky. If you let it go, you will be purposeless like me. Mark my words.

Your choice, your life, who cares..
