AN expatriate woman, who was allegedly in possession of marijuana, was arrested by police on Saturday in Lorengau, Manus, following a raid.
Provincial police commander Chief Inspector David Yapu said the woman, an American citizen, was allegedly apprehended with a considerable quantity of marijuana in her possession.
Yapu identified the suspect as Marie Kimberly Matousek, 42, from Illinois, the United States, who was living in Melbourne, Australia.
Yapu said a joint police, Customs and Immigration team acted on a complaint from the management of a local lodge where the suspect was staying and raided her room.
They allegedly found a plastic containing cannabis in her room.
“She was arrested and charged with being in possession of drugs and locked up in the cell,” Yapu said.
“The team acted on a complaint from the lodge management.
“Upon search, the team found the drugs in her room whilst she was present in her room.
“The suspect was on tourist visa and was in Lorengau town for almost two weeks. She was due to fly out from Manus on Sunday but was arrested.
“This is good collective team work by state agencies like police, Customs and PNG Immigration.”
The suspect is expected to appear at the Lorengau District Court this week.
