Amount of errors in competition worries Marum

PAPUA New Guinea Kumuls coach Michael Marum says the amount of errors in Digicel Cup matches is a worry ahead of next year’s Rugby League World Cup in England.
The former SP Hunters coach said he had been monitoring potential players and current PNG internationals since the season kick-off in July.
“There are about 30 players (current Kumuls and potential players) that I am monitoring,” Marum said at a press conference at Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
“It had been a slow start to the competition but it was until round four that these players started picking up the pace. To be honest, the average time that Digicel Cup games are in progress is between 30 and 40 minutes out of the full 80.
“The amount of errors on average is very high across all clubs.
“But again it’s a short season and we only have three rounds remaining. These factors are not helping and it’s pretty hard to tell or make assessments.
“I think that probably some clubs came off a short pre-season. If they have at least five to seven weeks of pre-season then it can have a positive impact on the players’ performance.”
Marum said there was enough footage of the players who were being monitored.
“There are over 20 videos of each of the 30 players who I am monitoring and I will review all of them,” he said.
