Travel issues force relocation of Cutters-Lahanis game

THE round-nine Digicel Cup game between the Kimbe Cutters and Goroka Lahanis has been relocated to Lae due to air travel issues.
PNG National Rugby League Competition (NRLC) manager Stanley Hondina said in a statement that due to the rescheduling of flights attributed to the restrictions established in response to the pandemic, the Goroka-Hoskins sector was not possible, resulting in the relocation of the game.
“We assumed that the Goroka-Hoskins sector had been reviewed but when making reservations for the Lahanis, there were no flights available to make it viable,” he said.
“West New Britain fans and supporters are understandably disappointed and I feel for them, but this is beyond our control.”
Hondina said with two rounds remaining after this weekend, “we will ensure a game will be played in Kimbe before the finals”.
“I thank the Cutters for their co-operation and support,” he said.
“We will have a game in Kimbe in the next two weeks.”
Hondina acknowledged the hard work and support of sponsors, staff and volunteers for preparing to host the Lahanis at Humphreys Oval in Kimbe.
“The travel issue is beyond our control,” he said.
“Thank you all for your understanding. We really appreciate and value your continued support.”
