THE Angau Memorial General Hospital in Lae, Morobe, has appointed Grant Muddle as its new chief executive officer.
Muddle succeeded former chief executive officer Dr Christopher Kenyhercz, whose contract expired. Dr Ruso Peroni was the acting during the vacancy.
Hospital board chairman David Wissink told The National on Thursday that the: “The Angau board, along with other key health sector participants, have selected Grant Muddle to be the new Angau CEO. Muddle started on the job on Thursday, May 9.”
Angau is undergoing a redevelopment programme supported by the PNG-Australia Partnership.
The redevelopment includes:

  • Development of a new acute services building, equipped with a modern 12 bed intensive care unit, four operating theatres, and new sterilisation, pathology and medical imaging facilities;
  • construction of a new emergency department and urgent care centre, and refurbishment of the hospital’s current main building to provide outpatient services;
  • refurbishments and new construction of general and specialist wards, which will increase the points of care at the hospital;
  • construction and expansion of maternal and new-born care facilities, including new birthing, maternity and paediatric wards and a special care nursery; and,
  • Major renovations and new builds for community and support facilities at the hospital, including a new chapel, mortuary, support services building, family support centre, and upgrades to roads, car parks, fencing and utilities.

The project was rolled out in stages to enable the hospital to continue its day-to-day operations with minimal disruption.
The first stage involved immediate maintenance and upgrades of selected hospital assets. Major construction works started last year.
