Angel in disguise

Letters

LAST May I went up to Port Moresby’s City Hall to follow up on something as I always do every client days on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I was directed to the workstation of the person I wanted to see.
He served a few clients who had gone before me and then he came to me – enquiring for my name and reason to see him.
I mentioned my name and told him about my query.
After he clarified the status of my stuff he said: “Paul at times I come across your stories in The National Weekender column. How do you do it?”
I told the guy about my hardships as a freelance writer.
I told him that I write the stories on writing pads as I don’t have a smartphone or a laptop.
I then take it to a public typing place to get it typed.
I pay for the service and take the soft copy on a flash drive to The National for editing and publication.
After our brief conversation, this stranger said: “Paul do not worry I have a laptop here which I think is worth giving away to a person like you”.
He pulled out from one of the drawers a laptop bag and handed me the laptop.
I was lost for words. I thought it was a dream.
But it wasn’t.
In this world we have people with different hearts, understanding, reasoning, characters and personalities.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when a total stranger offered me a laptop.
It is the same as him giving me a K2,000 (laptop’s worth).
To this kind and generous heart fellow, thank you.
