Angela fulfils her dream

Education

ANGELA Korry, 25, fullfilled her dream of becoming an accountant after topping her class in the certificate in accounting course recently at the Mapex Training Institute in Lae.
Korry from Okapa, Eastern Highlands, had left her family in Lae as a child to attend school in Port Moresby, living with guardians.
She completed grades one to eight at the Wardstrip Demonstration School and grades nine to 12 at Badihagwa Secondary School.
She wanted to be an accountant.
After grade 12, she was offered a place at the International Training Institute but her family could not afford the fees.
So she returned to Lae where her mother Dorothy Korry and step-father Afo Malo Akena lived with her brother Skotsher, 21, and her sister, 11.
“I told myself (I will) find a way to achieve my dream,” she said.
She saw a newspaper advertisement on Mapex and applied.
“The fees (for the six-month accounting course) were reasonable for my family to meet,” she said.
Her stepfather’s job as a carpenter was their main source of income.
She topped her class and received the dux award.
Mother Dorothy said: “I cried tears of joy because I know this was all in God’s timing and plan”.
She will start work with Laga Industries this week.
