Angels with hearts of gold

Letters

A WHILE ago, a young pregnant mother was referred from Mendi to Mt Hagen General Hospital.
The kind of reception she received was hostile and unimaginable.
It was of course a sad tale of medical hostility on a different wavelength.
The young mother was admitted at 5pm that afternoon but came under the surgeon’s blade at 2am the next day after an agonizing eight hours of total negligence.
Only after the patient screamed out in agony did the nurses and doctors responded.
It was an emergency referral from Mendi General Hospital but, as sad as it sounds, Mt Hagen General Hospital has a few medical personnel who are actually killers in disguise.
The patient who almost died lost a baby boy due to suffocation after a grueling eight hours of negligence and, if the mother was treated at the same time, the innocent baby would have survived.
Quite appallingly, the patient was discharged two days after a cesarean birth.
Imagine discharging a patient with an open cut operation from hip to hip and sending her home from Mt Hagen to Mendi on a public bus.
This was practically a madness never seen in the medical arena.
For the record – the patient almost died from infections but was fortunate to have her admitted to Mendi General Hospital for almost a month now.
Anyone in their right frame of mind would consider discharging a patient in this category – a total medical insanity and a death sentence imposed by executioners in white apparels.
The patient who was told to visit Mendi General Hospital five days later to remove the stitches sadly had her condition worsened so she visited the hospital earlier than advised.
The kind of reception she received from the nurses and gynecologist in Mendi was, of course, remarkably touching and a show of true medical care on a different plane.
Truly, we have our own angels in disguise working ardently at Mendi General Hospital and we must reverentially hold them in the highest regard as they are our saints serving with hearts full of compassion and tender-loving care.
The looks of concern on their ever-radiant faces define a group of professional people who work not only for the money but for the love of saving lives as well.
They are our true angels in white looking out for people in need of medical help with an unwavering spirit and commitment that know no boundaries.
Contrary to the hostility and negligence experienced at Mt Hagen – a young gynecologist and two lovely nurses who provided the patient with immediate medical care must be commended for having hearts that know no boundaries.
Of course you are our guardian angels in disguise and the people of Mendi and the greater Southern Highlands will always hold you in the highest regard for being saviours in the face of adversity.
Continue to serve with the unwavering passion and enthusiasm – for you were chosen among the masses for a noble calling.
You are a rare few among many who were divinely chosen to save lives.
Of course you are our champions reaching out with an unconditional love when all hopes seem to hang in the balance. Thank you for all your hard work and generosity.
We will always hold you dear to our hearts for all you are doing at Mendi General Hospital – a place where patients find peace and hospitality on a grand scale.
