Power problems in Vanimo

Letters

PROLONGED power disruptions are becoming a norm in recent times in Vanimo and are causing a lot of unnecessary inconveniences for its residences in all sectors.
The current generator used by PNG Power is already past its prime thus continues to be a headache -when one mechanical fault is fixed, another one pops up in no time.
Unfortunately, PNG Power is also always slow to get the machine back to work because, unlike other major centres, Vanimo is not a profit -making town for them.
While we understand that, electricity is still a vital public utility and therefore everyone should have access to it.
From individuals, offices, institutions and shops to other business entities alike, we all need power to make our lives easy and running.
Just last week PNG Power issued a public notice that power supply will cease for an indefinite period until such a time and what basic service providers -both public and private- have started doing is reducing their operational hours.
It is high time now political intervention is needed to drive out all the frustrations and ill -feelings amongst the mass.
Our five national leaders must put their political differences aside, sit down together and have dialogue to find collective and lasting solutions to address the problem of chronic power outages.
Vanimo town is host to people from all the districts, let alone other Papua New Guineans and foreigners so all must share the responsibility.
The peoples’ cry is they want a new generator.
Over to the “big boys”.
