Another mother dies of torture

Letters

UNREPORTED sorcery related deaths are on the rise in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.
Recently, an innocent young mother of three children was placed on top of a red hot flat iron at Ungubi ward 2, in the Nipa Basin local level government, after she was blamed for using sorcery to cause the death of a child.
She managed to escape – with the help of her elderly mother and younger sister – to her relatives in Egenda village about 20 kilometres away from Nipa and survived for three weeks but sadly died yesterday.
Those who tortured her and caused her death don’t deserve to plead in our courts. They deserve to go straight to jail.
