GOROKA Soccer Association (GSA) earned a spot in Lae after winning the Highlands Regional Besta Cup soccer qualifier at Dickson Oval in Kundiawa, Simbu, on Sunday.
Apo 1 won the grand final edging Apo 2 1-0 to advance to the next stage of the tournament in September in Lae.
The pre-tournament favourites struggled in the opening half before going on to score in the second half.
Despite going down to their first team, Apo 2 proved to their seniors that they made the decider on merit.
In the women’s grand final, Goroka capitalised on Tabare’s fatigue to score a goal to claim the women’s title 1-0.
Simbu Soccer Association president Diana Uran thanked all the participating teams and the host association for staging a successful four-day tournament.
PNG Football Association competitions manager Simon Koima confirmed that all regions had completed their games with the winners announced.
The Goroka men will now join Momase winners Almami, runners-up Morobe Football Association, Southern winners Hoods, runners-up Kamali and New Guinea Islands winner Kimbe for the Besta FA Cup finals. The Goroka women join Momase winner Morobe Football Association NGI winner Kimbe and Southern winner Port Moresby Soccer Association.
