A MAN is now in custody for allegedly killing his brother-in-law during an argument in East Sepik, provincial police commander Superintendent Robert Gesa says.
Gesa said yesterday that the suspect allegedly slashed his brother-in-law with a knife on Friday at 11pm outside the South Sea Tuna Cannery in Wewak during an argument.
“The suspect, his wife and his brother-in-law (wife’s younger brother) all work at the cannery”.
Gesa said that an argument started between the suspect and his in-law when the suspect told his wife not to get on the company’s vehicle that was dropping off staff working late because he wanted to walk home with his wife.
However, the brother- in-law objected to his sister walking in the night as it was not safe for both of them.
This infuriated the suspect who slashed the victim in the stomach with a knife.
On seeing this, the other staff members retaliated and bashed up the suspect and took him to the police station.
The victim died after losing a lot of blood, Gesa said.
Meanwhile, a man was at Kuminimbis village in Maprik last Tuesday after he was slashed during an argument.
The suspect is still at large.
There was a road accident when a truck overturned along the road to Kanduanum in Angoram district resulting in two deaths.
Police are still investigating”.
Gesa said that an ongoing fight in Dreikikir between Magusugum villagers and Yambesh villagers has resulted in the burning down of several houses in Magusugum village.
