FOUR people are nursing serious injuries in hospital after they were slashed by armed robbers at a Kuriva home in Central last week.
The wounded (two men and two women) were asleep in a home on Friday when nine armed men entered the property, slashed them and walked off with K25,000 belonging to the home owner.
Central police commander Supt John Midi told The National that the injured four were rushed to hospital by neighbours and police were called in.
“The criminal investigation division and highway patrol attended to the scene and two of the nine men were captured, they were detained at the 15-Mile Police Station cell and were interviewed where they gave up the names of the seven men still on the run,” he said.
“The owner of the home and the stolen money is a PMV (public motor vehicle) owner.
“The four victims are now admitted at PMGH (Port Moresby General Hospital).”
Meanwhile, a man from Lake Kopiago, Hela, has been charged with arson and maliciously injuring after a booze-fueled brawl at 14-Mile resulted in a home being burnt.
“The brawl erupted after two men injured each other,” Supt Midi said.
“In retaliation, the supporters of one of the men injured, went into the property and set it on fire.
“Another two men are on the run after the arson.”
Central police are also looking into the death of man, 50, at Gabagaba.
He was found dead near the main road on Monday between 7am and 8am.
“Police attended to the scene and we are awaiting the post-mortem result to establish the cause of death,” Supt Midi said.
