POLICE in East New Britain have apprehended three suspects allegedly involved in an armed robbery in front of a bank in Rabaul last Monday.

ENB police commander Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr confirmed that yesterday.

“So far police have progressed well. After collecting information, we have apprehended three suspects from the Zero Supermarket robbery outside BSP last week,” he said.

Wagambie said the three suspects included the person who hired the vehicle used for the robbery.

“There are other suspects still outstanding in this robbery.”

“Rabaul CID is investigating. We expect to make more arrests very soon,” he said. Supects allegedly held up a female employee of Zero Supermarket when she was about to enter Bank South Pacific to deposit the weekend’s takings.

It is understood that the suspects were armed.

Wagambie added a spate of armed robberies in ENB prompted police to step up operations.

“The operations are targeted at identifying and apprehending suspects involved in the recent upsurge in criminal activities,” Wagambie said.

He warned business houses in the province to be observant of their surroundings.

“We need the public to support us with information,” he said.
