THE Waigani Committal Court has issued a warrant of arrest for a woman charged with producing pornographic pictures after she failed to turn up in court yesterday.
Magistrate Danny Wakikura issued the warrant for Anita Metofa, 34, of Garaina village in Bulolo, Morobe, after being notified by Police Prosecutor Snr Const Regina Kilip of her continuous non-appearance.
Metofa’s co-accused, Aron Suri, 35, of Koroibus village, Yangoru in East Sepik, did not show up because his case was already listed for July 7.
“Both defendants did not appear in court,” Snr Const Kilip said.
“In the last mention, counsel appeared on behalf of Suri.
“For defendant Metofa, I make an application for a warrant of arrest to be issued against the defendant.” Magistrate Wakikura accepted Snr Const Kilip’s request and granted the warrant and made it returnable by Sept 23.
Metofa’s bail has been set aside while Suri is out on bail.
Police alleged that sometime in 2015, in Port Moresby, Metofa and Suri were involved in the production of pornographic material.
This allegedly occurred when Metofa was married to another man.
It was alleged that the duo took pictures of themselves in the act with a mobile phone.
Some years later after the alleged incident, Metofa’s husband was surprised to see on social media (Facebook), pictures of his wife (Anita) and Suri put out for public viewing.
A complaint was lodged at the Boroko Police station.
