COMPETENCY and commitment will greatly enable the country to implement the Vision 2050, Papua New Guinea Training and Development Society president George Arua says.
Arua was speaking at the opening the society’s annual conference on the “role of PNGTDS in the implementation of Vision 2050” in Lae last Thursday.
The conference was attended by trainers and human resource personnel from a number of some organisations.
He said competence was largely possessing technical skills, while commitment was a psychological attribute dealing with attitudes and behaviour.
“In life it is common to build competence rather than commitment.
“However, building competence is easier among those who are committed and willing to learn,” he said.
He said the human resources of organisations these days were categorised at different levels – from the highly competent and committed staff who could do and would do tasks, to the non-committed and incompetent staff who could not and would not do tasks that are assigned them.
He said organisations survived and built their reputations on their staff who were competent and committed and had an effect on the efficiency of the organisation.
