ASSEMBLY members in the Kokopo, Gazelle and Rabaul local level governments (LLGs) have completed a two-day training.
The training was held at Butliwan ward in the Duke of York Island LLG area of Kokopo and ended on Friday.
It was for strengthening ward governance and address the foundation of systems and processes at the wards.
The training was based on the ENB LLG standing orders and roles and responsibilities in the ward level.
ENB deputy administrator for districts and LLG services Nicholas Larme said the main focus was to prepare them on how to help ward-level functions because it was where the majority of the population was.
β€œThe Government needs to go where the majority of the people are – at the wards – and look at ways of beefing up its functions, including alternative revenue generation to support ward operations and development agendas,” he said.
Larme said training was also about capacity-building and up-skilling governance in the ward-levels by recognising existing ward development committees (WDCs) as well as their functional responsibilities.
He said that WDCs in wards were present but their functions were not clear to the people.
