THE Police Association of PNG has come out in strong support of ousted Madang MP and police minister Nixon Duban.

The association’s acting national president Leuth Nidung said: “In a short period of time when Duban was the Minister for Police, the police force had seen a lot of enthusiasm in him to change and improve the police force.

“We have seen the launching of the long overdue police modernisation concept which is of course his brainchild.

“With the modernisation programme, K200 million was approved as additional funding by the government apart from recurrent budgetary allocation and we were beginning to see real improvement in police logistics in vehicles and refurbishment of infrastructure.

“From the additional funding a commendable portion of the funding was also allocated for salaries and accommodation of our members by this he had displayed that he had a keen interest in the welfare of our membership.”

“On behalf of the 6,000-plus police men and women in the country, I would like to thank Duban for his foresight and vision to improve the police force. He was truly a genuine member of parliament, minister and leader who knew his responsibilities to the people of this country by showing to us he had worked very hard in fulfilling his ministerial responsibilities.”
