Association condemns absence of dept officials

THE PNG Teachers’ Association general secretary Ugwailubu Mowana has criticised the absence of top officers from the Education Department at the national in-service training of secondary teachers in NCD.
Mowana said sending of middle management officers to talk to teachers about various issues of teaching and changes in the education system was unacceptable.
“Teachers need senior officials who are well versed in a lot of policies and changes in the education system to come and talk to the teachers,” he said.
“There are lot of changes happening in the education system and such are the changes in the curriculum where the outcome-based curriculum is being phased out and the new standard-based education is being introduced and teachers need to be trained and taught well.”
De La Sale Secondary School teacher Manda Miok Pelyapu said polices were made at the Education Department and they were the teachers implementing as they had to be present.
Pelyapu said they had to make clear strategies and methodologies that teachers could use.
“There are changes in policies every time. We need to be updated with these changes so that we can be prepared.”
