A DIGITAL association in Papua New Guinea is aiming to encourage more technical people to create development solutions in the country.
The PNG ICT Cluster president and co-founder Winifred Kula Amini said this during the launching of the Hackathon challenge – Hack4Change – in Port Moresby on Friday.
The event was witnessed by sponsors and patron Deputy Prime Minister Davis Steven.
“We aim to promote problem-solving skills, collaborating, community spirit, team work, mentoring and coaching and investor readiness for Papua New Guinea entrepreneurs and or talents’ creative ideas and innovation in solving real life problems,” Amini said.
“Hack4Change is an all-inclusive programme where participants (hacking teams) apply through a formal registration process and qualify to participate.
“The inaugural themes for this year will be exciting and promise positive results supporting three key pillars – economic, social and environment – and will create pathways for ICT solutions to address issues in the Sustainable Development Goals by the UN.
“The hackathon aims to bring together innovators, end-users, creatives, investors, experts, policy makers, business and ICT practitioners, researchers, educators and thought leaders in different sectors to participate in the development of the startup ecosystem for progression and investment in new ideas through problem solving.”
