PORT Moresby Women’s Softball Association donated K12,460 to National Aids Council (NAC) under the theme ‘save a life’ in Port Moresby yesterday.
President Ian Soweni said the association’s 10 clubs raised the funds.
“The money was presented to support the National AIDS Secretariat’s mission to supply all citizens with information about HIV/AIDS and thus making the public aware of the epidemic,” Soweni said.
“Every year we make awareness about issues affecting women in terms of HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, breast cancer and cervical cancer.
“We conduct HIV/AIDS awareness every December, where teams are required to wear different coloured shirts representing different sicknesses such as red for AIDS and pink for cancer.
“Port Moresby Softball Association has taken on certain awareness on issues affecting women throughout the nation.”
Soweni said the association gave the clubs a red laplap to fill with donations.
“The idea was to fill the material with money. Each club is designated with letter of the phrase ‘Save a Life’.
“We have raised the money and we hope our contribution will boost the awareness of HIV/AIDS to save lives.”
