UNITING two footballing factions in Goroka is a priority for next season, according to Goroka Soccer Association (GSA) acting president Rhoda Selan.
Selan said the only way to see that become a reality was for the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) to run an election in Goroka to vote in a new president for one association in Eastern Highlands.
But for that to happen, she said all clubs that compete in GSA (PNGFA affiliate) and the Goroka Football Association (former PNGFA affiliate) would need to register to be eligible for the election.
“The steps to see football in Goroka unite under one umbrella will depend on the clubs when they register,” Selan said.
“The notice for GSA had already been given out in October.
“The only way to do this is to conduct an election so that things are done transparently. We plan to see this happen in January.
“I have requested for them (PNGFA) to come and conduct the election because it’s very sensitive, especially with two associations in the province.
“I don’t believe in having two separate associations, I believe that we should merge for the best interest of football.”
Goroka Football Association president Cathy Agunam also shared similar sentiments when they concluded their finals at the end of October.
