“BE accepting and allow people living with a disability to try things for themselves, don’t be too sympathetic.”

These were the words of Papua New Guinea’s Paralympic silver medallist and Pacific Games ambassador Francis Kompaon, when sharing his personal experiences at a disability awareness workshop in Port Moresby on Sunday.

The workshop was facilitated by one of Australia’s disability inclusion experts Darren Cunningham, a former wheelchair tennis player.

It was aimed at helping the Games Organising Committee staff increase their knowledge and awareness of people with disabilities in order to make the Games as inclusive as possible to all locals and visiting athletes.
