HENGANOFI MP Robert Atiyafa is inviting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) delegation visiting Goroka next month to make time to see the town’s main market.
“I invite the Apec delegation to visit the market in its current state, and the two sister markets – Kakaruk Market and Suave Market,” Atiyafa, said.
He said plans for the market re-development must also include Kakaruk and Suave.
Atiyafa said the delegation should visit the market, the Raun Raun Theatre, the Asaro mudmen and Bena cane swallowers.
Atiyafa said there were potholes on the roads, rubbish on the streets and pigs everywhere
“The notification for Goroka to host Apec came some time ago,” Atiyafa said.
“Are we really ready to host some of the Apec meetings here?”
He suggested that Goroka MP Henry Ame and a Cabinet minister from Eastern Highlands – Benny Allan (Agriculture and Livestock minister), Johnson Tuke (Mining minister) or Mehrra Kipefa (Labour and Industrial Relations minister) – be on the Apec committee for the Goroka leg.
