AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will attend the Anzac Day dawn service at Isurava memorial site along the Kokoda track in Northern on April 25.
Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko, in a briefing with Australian Deputy High Commissioner Dr Joanne Loundes, said Albanese is confirmed to arrive a few days prior to the dawn service.
He said Prime Minister Marape will host a state dinner for Albanese at Parliament’s State Function Room on April 24 before they leave the next day to Isurava.
Tkatchenko said as part of the visit, and in respect of to the fallen soldiers of World War 2, Albanese and Marape would walk along certain sections of the Kokoda track.
He said Albanese would be welcomed in traditional Oro style at Isurava where he would be met by Northern Governor Gary Juffa.
Albanese will leave the country after the Anzac service.
During World War 2, Australian forces were stationed in Northern from July 1942 to stop Japan advancing towards Port Moresby.
More than 600 Australians were killed during the war, and thousands more became ill or injured.
