Australian professional golfer and coach Mark Gibson, from the Royal Pines resort in Queensland, conducted a week-long workshop for junior golfers in Lae recently.
More than 25 people attended the workshop at the Lae Golf Club.
Many were students who used the term break to learn more about golf.
“Golf is a mind game,” Gibson said during the workshop.
“The personal discipline that professional golfers need also assist other parts of their lives.
“Papua New Guinean youths have a lot of talent.
“What we are here to do during our coaching is to develop minds so that the talent can be realised.
“There is no reason why the next Tiger Woods can’t be in this next generation of professional golfers from PNG.”
Lae NKW Holdings and Dunlop PNG worked together to make the workshop possible.
“Having a world renowned golf coach agree to visit PNG to assist in the development of our youth is really positive,” NKW chief executive Marlen Brunskill said.
“Mark Gibson has coached people from as young as five to as old as 88.
“He is a two-time winner of the PGA’s National Teacher of the Year award, and won the Queensland PGA Golf Teacher of the Year three times.”
Dunlop PNG managing director James Green said junior golfers in Lae were lucky to have attended the workshop.
“He has given thousands of hours of voluntary time with organisations such as the Gold Coast Academy of Sport and their golf development squad,” Green said.
