Australia backs athletes

THE Australian Government through the PacificAus Sports programme will support thirty-three Papua New Guinean athletes prepare for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Australian High Commissioner John Feakes announced the partnership last week between the Australian Olympic Team and PNG Olympic Committee.
“Australia shares a long history and a deep love of sport with Papua New Guinea, which has helped forge and maintain our good relationship on and off the sporting field,” Feakes said.
“Australia is proudly investing in partnerships for elite sports in Papua New Guinea through the PacificAus Sports programme. I will be keenly watching their qualifying competitions ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”.
Australia’s support will assist athletes compete across seven sports including athletics, swimming, boxing, weightlifting, taekwondo, breakdancing and rugby sevens.
Australia continues its commitment to promoting greater inclusion of women and girls in sport at the highest levels and is pleased that 15 female athletes will be supported through this programme.
