I WRITE to express my concern over school aged children involved in activities such as:

  • begging at traffic lights and shopping centres,
  • Selling newspapers at certain locations
  • Car park attendants
  • Bag snatching
  • Pick pocket plus so many other illegal activities.

There are a number of so-called organisations speaking up for children’s rights but NOT doing their jobs, obviously, the number of unattended children on the streets and public places is rapidly increasing.

I believe these children have parents, and these parents have neglected their God given responsibilities to provide this basic needs and therefore the society as a whole is suffering at the stupidity of irresponsible parents.

I think the parents of children who are caught misbehaving, should be harshly punished for negligence of their responsibilities.

Of course every child has a different situation some have lost a parent or both, but most children just become opportunist and think it is normal to do what they do.  Attention and Assistance should be given to orphans and children with sensitive issues rather than trying to take care of children whose parents are lazy and irresponsible.

The Lukautim Pikinini Act which advocates for child protection stresses that “Many of our vulnerable children are denied these basic rights” Education, Health Food, Love and care..etc…etc.

Is this organization functioning and carrying out what it represents? Can this organization create a solution to have all the children at traffic lights selling and causing public nuisance off the streets?

The sooner we have controls over these situations the better it will be for all of us in our city community.
