A LONG-serving public servant received the title to his house from National Housing Corporation yesterday after 30 years of waiting.
Chief executive officer of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority Wilson Sagati received the title from the acting managing director of the National Housing Corporation Elizabeth Bowada.
Sagati received the title after paying the balance of K182,000 of the K251,000 price offered by former acting chief executive officer Ditha Morris Nayabbanung.
“I have been waiting for this day since I first got employed with the Department of Civil Aviation in 1976 as a recruit air traffic controller,” Sagati said.
Sagati first moved to the property at Konedobu – Section 51 Allotment 123 – in 1988. He paid a rental of K23 after vacating his house at the old aerodrome at 7-Mile, next to the Jackson International Airport.
Sagati rose up the ranks to become the authority’s CEO.
His children have all graduated from higher learning institution and moved on.
However, for the Enang Island man from New Ireland, his desire was to own a home.
In 2013, Sagati bought the property when it was valued at K251,982.50.
“At last the monkey is off my back,” he said.
Bowada felt sorry for Sagati who had to wait for a long time.
“I am satisfied that Sagati’s outstanding problem is solved.”
