Authority recognises importance of rehabilitating prisoners

THE Imbonggu District Development Authority in Southern Highlands continues to recognise the importance of rehabilitating prisoners and has allocated K50,000 to assist in the operational cost of the Buiyebi prison.
Imbonggu MP Francis Awesa had been handing over food and other goods to the staff and inmates.
He handed over a television set so prisoners can watch the news, games and other educational programmes as part of their rehabilitation process. He also handed over boxes of library books and told the prisoners to become responsible, productive and good law-abiding citizens.
He said some people forgot that prisoners were also human beings but were in prison because they had broken the law. “You are God’s creation like all of us,” he said.
“You can change while in prison and after serving your terms, go out of here as productive and good citizens to contribute meaningfully to the community.”
