Bad weather affects work on feeder roads

UPGRADING of feeder roads in Bogia have been stopped because of recent heavy rain in the area but work will resume soon, Bogia MP Robert Naguri says.
Naguri said a contract was in place with the Works Department to upgrade the roads.
“Upgrading started last year but we are facing delays in funding as well due to the transition into the new Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS),” he said.
“We paid the Works Department but it could not use the money on time to upgrade roads before the rainy season.
“No upgrade can be done during the rainy season.
“The Works department will continue the upgrade the Iruari-Giri, Awar-Kaian, Nubia-Base camp and Tangu-Guam roads.
“The Works Department will be concentrating on upgrading Bogia roads this whole year.”
Naguri said the roads needed to be accessible so that law and order awareness could reach remote parts of the district.
“We have been receiving complaints from our people in the rural areas about law and order issues but we cannot really attend to them because of the deteriorating roads.”
Naguri said the bridge in Nubia would also be worked on and completed this year.
“The materials needed to complete the final phase of the bridge will be reaching Bogia soon.”
Naguri said a community justice centre would also be opened in Bogia station this month.
