PLANS to build a new hospital in Bogia with a K40 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are underway to address health issues in the district, MP Robert Naguri says.
Naguri said tenders for projects would be advertised soon and construction would begin later this year.
“It is a big project and would take up to two years to complete,” he said.
The location of the hospital would be announced after site inspections were done.
“We have two locations that the hospital can be built at, one is at the Daigul health centre and the other is at Bogia station where the current health centre is located.”
Naguri said an initial K2 million was received from the Health Department in 2018 to upgrade the Bogia health centre.
“We ceased the initial upgrading of the health centre to focus on building the new hospital,” he said.
“If the new hospital is built in Bogia station, we will use the money to upgrade Daigul health centre.
“If it is built in Daigul, we will upgrade Bogia health centre.”
Naguri plans to build a nursing school soon after the hospital is complete.
“We have six health centres in the district but they are understaffed.
“We have only one nursing college, which is Gaubin School of Nursing, and that is not enough,” he said.
