Baki: Dog cages not for people

PEOPLE should not be locked up in dog compartments on police vehicles, Police Commissioner Gari Baki says.
Baki made the statement following an incident on Friday at the Manu Autoport Service Station in Port Moresby where a man was arrested and placed in the dog-holding compartment of a police vehicle.
A reporter from The National who was at the scene and witnessed the incident said that it occurred in front of other police officers as they all were parked at the service station to get fuel.
However, none of the other officers intervened and just watched as the man was shoved into the dog compartment.
Baki condemned the actions of the officers and said that they would be looking into that incident today.
“Officers who are found to be abusing their powers and abusing the rights of others by placing them in the dog-holding compartments will be dealt with once we investigate the incident and identify the officers,” Baki said.
“These vehicles were purposely made for the dog units so that they could carry their dogs and not human beings.
“It is very wrong and I will look into this matter this week.”
