Baki to police: Arrest me

Main Stories

FORMER Police Commissioner Gari Baki is challenging officers to arrest him if they believe he had been involved in a gun smuggling syndicate.
He was responding to a statement by Police Minister Bryan Kramer accusing former senior police officers serving under the Peter O’Neill-led government of gun smuggling.
“I’m challenging Police Minister Bryan Kramer to send the investigation team to my Bolo village in Talasea District, West New Britain to arrest me,” Baki said.
“They are reporting in the media that retired senior officers at the police headquarters under the O’Neill government are implicated in that syndicate.
“All I know is that I was the one signing orders to bring in firearms for the Apec security operations.
“I also signed off on orders for bringing in firearms into this country for any private security company. And if they are accusing me of smuggling firearms, then come and arrest me.
“Anything to do with ordering of firearms into the country, it’s the Police Commissioner who signs it off. So what is controversial about it?”
Baki expressed disappointment to see former senior police officers being dragged into the police investigation.
“Our reputation is at stake for such reports. We built successful careers in the police force and because of petty police politics, we were removed.”
Kramer recently said retired and serving senior police officers were being investigated over corruption allegations at police headquarters in Port Moresby
“These cases included smuggling of firearms, land/housing fraud, payroll fraud, drug, stealing fuel, insurance scams, stealing from their own retired officers’ pension funds and even misusing police allowances,” he said.

    • Why not. U are accussing him so he has every right to defend himself. Think before u open your mouth

  • This is unethical for Former Police Commission to ask for himself to be arrested . Instead he should cooperate with the Police now that he is implicated. Former Commission while a Commission of Police while under PO regime he always quote this ” A person is not guilty until proven guilty.” So relax and let the justice take its on course .You have already implied by defending yourself of something to hide in this investigation.

  • Baki should be patient, they are coming into the press, after completed their homework, if you think you did nothing wrong, they found you did something wrong, let the law take its own course, to find who is wrong…

Nation is watching all these funny things using the taxes money…..

  • This is a sign of PANIC…. Continue to unearth the story and the truth will be exposed…. So many cover-ups costing this country dearly.

  • We do respect law and order as is above all ,right, I think this is unethical practice, sometimes we need to take into account someone who have served the department more than number of years. We would like to correct all mash but its quit challenging, time consuming and waste of resource. I know Baki is a Goodman

    • Ema, how long have you known Baki?

In the eyes of God, no human being is good, except God Himself.

  • Corruption had been so long rooted in the departments. It has grown white n gray hairs everywhere therefore its time to root. Root n Xpose the truth for it is time now to TAKE BACK PNG!! ,,thumbs up for front liners.

    • Baki is concerned because Kramer is going to openly accuse him. Has Baki no right to publicly defend himself

      • I don’t think Kramer named anyone by name in his report.
If I were Baki, I would humble myself and let the police do it’s job, knowing that the truth will always prevail.
Pride only brings a person’s down fall.

  • Former PC should keep quiet and let the investigations be launched and concluded. He has jumped the gun, even when his name was not mentioned! What does his outburst mean after all? Guilt is written all over this statement in the media. Larim kam

  • Someone who responded like that to question police and challenging them has something to hide. He is no longer a big boy, he is a very small boy now. Tell him to wait, his turn is about to come. He is not immune. We all subject to one law.

  • No one mentioned his name as being part of this gun “stealing” business. Why is he jumping up and down? Who said he’s not corrupt?

  • Why justifying yourself in the media. No one saw your name in the papers. Ranting over the matter is a suspicious move.
