BAMO Namo will be looking to claim victory against Gunika when both Kata Niue Island teams meet in the Boera Sailors Volleyball Association A-grade men’s grand final outside Port Moresby tomorrow.
“Bamo Namo finished third in the regular season,” association secretary Boio Tani told The National yesterday.
“But they were victories in the early knockouts and were on standby for the winners of the major semifinal, who were Gunika.” She said both sides were familiar with each other’s game, given an abundance of talents on the island had prompted president Edward Tani to form another club.
“There is little separating the teams in terms of skills, so the grand final is expected to go down to the wire,” Boio said.
Meanwhile, the association will also host its C-grade men’s, B-grade men’s and women’s, and A-grade men’s and women’s grand finals. In the C-grade men’s decider, outsiders Wirekona — who finished sixth in the regular season — will face minor premiers and favourites Bamo Namo who have domination the division since the start of the campaign.
Madiauwo will fancy their chances against B-grade women’s minor premiers Gunika, who dropped their intensity late in the season.
B-grade men’s minor premiers Misty will aim to complete the double when they face Wirekona while Bamo Namo have a tough task on their hands against A-grade women’s favourites Wirekona.
“This season has been competitive with the association allowing outsiders to join the competition,” Boio said.
“This has significantly raised the standard of the competition unlike previous seasons.
“So I’d like to thank all players and officials who have helped make the season a success.”
