MOROBE Rugby Union will head into the third week of its offseason competition with teams invited to join the sevens challenge ahead of this year’s campaign.
Union president Lionel Kamiak said for the last two weeks, a few teams had taken part in the offseason competition which saw cash prizes and trophies given away in each game.
He said despite no government or corporate support this year, they had keep the competition afloat, using whatever resources. “We also engage youths, especially our younger talents,” Kamiak said.
“I encourage all former and current players to get involved by supporting their respective clubs and upcoming players.”
Last weekend, Unitech Reds were the Cup winners and Dirty Eight Two were the runners-up.
The plate winners were Royals One and Dirty Eight Two finished fourth.
“Another weekend of pre-season matches kick off on Saturday and interested clubs can call Laho Posu on 72271454,” he said. “Cash prizes are on offer.
“We will have two more weekends of pre-season matches before our provincial sevens tournament.”
“The dates will be announced soon.”
