BANK South Pacific Financial Group Ltd, formerly known as Bank South Pacific Ltd, is commemorating the annual World Earth Day today through its Go Green initiative.
The Go Green initiative recognises the annual Earth Day by supporting innovative ideas that promote environmental resilience.
The bank joined the global community to show support for Earth Day (April 22) with the goal to continue multiple projects geared to keeping the community sustainable and environmentally sound for the next 50 years.
BSP corporate sponsorship manager Amelia Minnopu said Earth Day was an important moment to reflect on our relationship with nature and bring more awareness to environmental issues in PNG communities.
“With the 2021 Earth Day theme ‘Restore our earth,’ we believe that environmental challenges cannot be resolved in a short period of time,” she said.
“However, the simple planting of trees can improve quality of the environment and restore our earth.
“The solutions we need are out there if we have the courage to embrace, listen and do something different for our community.”
Minnopu said this year’s theme focused on the natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking and ideas that could restore the world’s ecosystem.
“In this way, the theme rejects the notion that mitigation or adaptation are the only ways to address the climate change,” she said.
“It is up to every one of us to restore our Earth.”
The bank’s participation is targeted at creating environmentally friendly habits to make a difference.
Each year, BSP takes part in a number of events including Earth Hour, Earth Day, World Environment Day, BSP trash to treasure sculpture festival and the Go Green annual school clean up that engages communities, schools, NGOs, in partnership with various government agencies.
