Two escapees recaptured

TWO fugitives who escaped from Beon Prison were recaptured and arrested by police and Correctional Service (CS) wardens last weekend.
Madang commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said one was arrested by Talidig police in Kubugam along the North Coast Road and the other was arrested by the CS wardens in Kakaruk Market.
He reiterated his plea to the public to help provide information towards the recapture of all prison escapees.
Supt Rubiang said to date only five out the 48 who escaped from the prison had been recaptured.
Two were shot and wounded and died later in the hospital.
“The others are still on the run and the CS wardens and the police are working keeping a lookout for the fugitives,” he said.
“The public, as law- abiding and responsible citizens, must help us by reporting the whereabouts of the remaining escapees.
“I am glad that some had been very helpful with the recapture of the fugitives thus far.”
Supt Rubiang said the one who was picked up at the market escaped in 2019 while engaged in work outside.
