BANK of South Pacific (BSP) Financial Group, through its community project initiative, has come to the assistance of the Gaire community of Central, building its fish market and equipment.
The bank installed a 2,000L water tank and pump, a hand wash basin and set up a solar kit for the market, including a solar LED streetlight for the community with the aim of empowering the local economy.
The retail team from the Waigani head office opened the fish market, handing the project back to the community, its leaders and youths on Friday.
BSP Group general manager for retail, Daniel Faunt, said the bank had 52 community projects to deliver this year and this fish market was one of the 25 projects that BSP’s business units had completed so far.
“We have seven core values and community is one which is important to us – we spend a lot of money without expecting anything in return,” he said.
“I hope it empowers the community to generate business.”
