Consultations on community development

CONSULTATIONS with stakeholders are being carried out on the Community Development (Stretim na strongim komuniti) Bill 2021.
The first consultation was completed in Lae other meetings to be carried out in other centres covering the four regions of the country.
For Mamose, the consultation was held in Lae last Wednesday with members of the Department for Community Development and Religion, the Constitution and Law Reform Commission, Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council and other stakeholders.
Community Development acting deputy secretary Warren Marape said the purpose of the Bill was to ensure there was a system in place where policies that provided protection and empowered the people were decentralised down to the sub-national level.
He said when the Bill became an Act, it would improve the functions of the department in accordance with the Organic Law on provincial governments.
