THE people of Lae and Morobe will be relieved off the long queues at BSP banks in Lae when a new branch is opened at Eriku, BSP chief executive officer Robin Flemming has announced.
During an interview with The National last Friday, Flemming said there were many complaints raised regarding the long queues and they have decided to open a new branch at Eriku to serve their customers.
“Lae has been compliant on the queues, the number of people on the branches and how we can address the ongoing customer service issues,” he said.
“We’ve announced the development of a new branch at Eriku that should have about 24-30 staff and we are very close to getting the final plans for building board approval.
“By the end of the year, we should have another branch in Lae which will be able to take the pressure off Lae Top Town, in particular, and Lae Market.
“We have to do better in informing our customers on some of the benefits of electronic banking.
“It is more convenient.
“We know and understand that in PNG we need cash and we are going to need cash in many years to come.
“But there are lot of transactions which could be done using your card or mobile phone.
“School fees are a real case at this point.
“You can pay your school fees with mobile banking instead of lining up in branches to pay.”
