Bank reassures card customers transaction delay normal

PEOPLE using Bank South Pacific Visa debit cards online or overseas may see a delay of “a day or so” of transactions showing up in their accounts, said bank chief executive Robin Fleming.
“BSP’s Visa debit card system is fully operational. When customers receive their new MV (MasterCard Visa) chip-enabled card they should use it immediately at an ATM for a balance enquiry using their PIN to complete the new card initialisation process,” he said.
“Once they have confirmed their new MV chip card is working, if they have an old Visa debit card that card should be destroyed.
“Customers should also be aware that if they use their card for online purchases or purchases whilst overseas it may take a day or so for the settlement to occur and for their account to be debited.”
He said it was important for customers to fully carry out the activation process of Visa debit cards to avoid issues of accessibility while noting the security features in place.
“If a customer has overlooked completing the card initialisation process by carrying out a balance enquiry at an ATM they will not be able to use their new card, and will affect their accessibility,” Fleming said.
“It is important therefore for all VDC customers to read the instructions leaflet with their new VDC.
“The VDC is safe and secure and we encourage our customers to use additional security features such as 3D secure, to always keep their card with them, never to disclose their PIN and check their account frequently for any unusual transactions. Mini statements and balance enquiries using mobile banking or our mobile app are free”.
