THE importance of putting some money aside and spending less than what one earns were highlighted to Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) staff by Bank South Pacific (BSP) banking education manager Gabriel Nangile in Port Moresby last week.
CPNG ran a two-day conference from Wednesday which was attended by regional managers and development officers in the National Capital District (NCD) Central.
Being one of the sponsors of CPNG’s School Kriket programme, BSP was part of the conference and conducted financial literacy training with nine officers and regional managers.
Nangile encouraged the participants to have smart goals in life and be willing to reduce their expenses in order to have some savings for unexpected expenses like funeral costs and emergencies.
“Smart-saving goals could mean applying the 70, 20, 10 ratio – that’s 70 per cent expenses, 20 per cent savings and 10 per cent tithe,” he said.
CPNG game development manager and warden Margaret Sibona said while adhering to Covid-19 protocols and social distancing, the governing body was adjusting its programmes by travelling to provinces to run conferences.
The conference also saw young female cricket development officer Henao Samuel, from NCD, join her male counterpart in the financial literacy training.
More female cricket development officers are expected in the upcoming conferences in other centres.
BSP corporate sponsorship manager Amelia Minnopu said BSP and CPNG had enjoyed a 12-year partnership which would continue this year.
“Our partnership is valued at K420,000 per annum with almost K5 million already invested into the BSP School Kricket programme,” she said.
