THE Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) is concerned that many retailers and wholesalers are still selling banned yoyo water balls.

The toy was outlawed in June.

As part of a nationwide survey to reduce the number of dangerous toys sold before Christmas, the ICCC has found a number of retailers still selling these yoyos.

ICCC Commissioner and CEO Dr Billy Manoka said: “Yoyo water balls are dangerous as they can cause strangulation to an infant if the cord winds around the neck.

“Yoyo water balls have been banned in the US, Australia and New Zealand since 2011,” Manoka said

“The ICCC is warning consumers to refrain from buying the products and to report to ICCC any shop that is selling them.”
