Banning State of Origin telecast is right move

I WANT to say that the letter by Sapulokave, “No need to ban rugby games” (July 14), is preposterous and seems to be written by someone who is not thinking straight.

This is because he refers to the call for banning the live telecast of the state of origin games as an old fashioned, autocratic, unwise, and knee jerk reaction to a minor social ill.

The deaths of people over the years relating to the state of origin games may be a minor problem to him but it is not to those who are affected in one way or another.

Such a statement is from a very selfish, self-centered, egoistic and narrow-minded person.

The police have made a very genuine and realistic suggestion of banning the live telecast of the State of Origin matches in the attempt to curb deaths and incidents resulting from them.

Year in year out we see the same headlines after the games-deaths and fights.

These can be prevented if our people restrain themselves from resorting to violence.

Since the past has shown us otherwise, we have to find a way forward to prevent such things from recurring, hence the call by police to ban the live telecast of the State of Origin games.
