CRICKET PNG has announced that Brad Hogg will not be the Hebou Barramundis coach this year.
Both parties have agreed that due to his return to Twenty20 Cricket, he is not able to commit to the role at the present time.
Hogg, 41, was appointed to the lead coaching role of the Barramundis and Garamuts last August following the departure of Andy Bichel, who has since gone on to be an Australian Test selector.
However, he came out of retirement last year as a last-minute signing for the Perth Scorchers in the revamped Australian Big Bash League.
Remarkably, Hogg has exceeded all expectations and bowled superbly to be arguably the bowler of the BBL tournament.
He was quoted in the Australian press soon after his selection saying his new found enthusiasm for the game was in part to do with his involvement with PNG cricket.
“Bichel was doing the job (coaching PNG) and then I was going to take over when Bich decided to leave but those things have changed. I will still be involved in some capacity there (PNG). I will keep chatting with Greg Campbell who is in charge. They are a pretty good, talented squad over there.
“An interesting group of people but the enthusiasm over there for the way they go about their cricket gave me the joy to come back and play for the Perth Scorchers.”
He has been instrumental in the Scorchers making the final to be played on Saturday and he has won selection in the Australian Twenty20 squad to play India.
After consulting with Cricket PNG general manager, Campbell, Hogg agreed he could not commit enough time to the huge campaign that lies ahead for Cricket PNG in the coming months.
Cricket PNG have been supportive of Hogg resuming his playing career and have congratulated him on his performances.
Cricket PNG are already working on a replacement coach and hope to make an announcement soon.
Hogg will continue to support Cricket PNG in the Pacific MMI Motor Vehicle Insurances Limited Don’t Drink & Drive Legends Bash and other events.
