DESPITE a slow start to the NCD public servants netball competition, National Fisheries Authority kicked off their campaign on a high note when they defeated PNG Power 23-21 in the premier division.
It was a neck-to-neck affair throughout the match but in the final minutes NFA had the upper-hand restricting PNG Power to wrap up the match by two points at the Rita Flynn Courts.
NFA also put on a strong defence with Gillain Ole (GK) diffusing several  attempts by their opponents under the ring and collecting the rebounds to use to their advantage.
PNG Power also showed glimpses of a comeback with Lua Pinia (GA) putting them back in the game five minutes into the opening half.
But they failed to hold on as NFA young guns Stacey Haeremai and Daisy Ole pot the attempts to take a 13-10 lead in the first half.
PNG Power pressed on with two fast goals to Kepi Gewa (GS) in the early minutes of the second half to get them back into the match.
But Haeremai was superb under the ring sinking those vital points to ensure her side maintained their lead.
With the scores 16-12, PNG Power continued to apply pressure to close the gap to 18-16.
But Ole proved her class in the closing stages as NFA held on to their two-point lead to wrap up the match.
In the other matches, competition leaders Telikom 1 forfeited Ombudsman Commission Eagles after they failed to field a side.
In the other matches, Sports Federation beat BPNG 22-18, IBS Port Moresby General Hospital drew Labour One 22-22 and Telikom Two drew Commerce and Industries 14-14 while National Gaming Board forfeited NCDC.
