CRICKET Papua New Guinea chief executive Greg Campbell says the Barramundis remain upbeat despite not winning a game in the Cricket World Cup League Two opening-round tour of Scotland.
Campbell said the Barramundis had been competitive in all of their four matches but said there were little things that cost them in the tri-series from Aug 14-21.
“I had a chat with head coach (Joe Dawes) and he was happy despite the results not going our way,” he said.
“Of course we want to win these games but I think we have grown leaps and bounds in terms of our fighting spirit.
“All games were played till the 50th over before we lost and again it comes down to the little things.
“We have to get the basics right. We didn’t capitalise on them and it cost us.
“I’ve also spoken to captain Assad Vala and he is a bit disappointed but he is still upbeat for the upcoming tours.
“He is confident that if we can get the little things right then our future is bright.”
The Barramundis have returned from Scotland and are now preparing for the second round against Namibia and hosts United States in Raleigh, North Carolina, from Sept 13-23.
Meanwhile, the national women’s cricket team arrived in Scotland on Tuesday for the T20 World Cup qualifiers from tomorrow to Sept 7.
The Lewas hope to get on the front foot when they face heavyweights Bangladesh in their opener tomorrow.
