Attitude biggest problem: Kapi Natto

PAPUA New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) president John Kapi Natto says attitude is the sport’s biggest problem in the country.
Speaking at the opening of the Southern Besta Cup in Port Moresby yesterday, Kapi Natto said discipline was vital to footballers’ development.
“We lack respect and discipline from the national team down (to the grassroots level),” he said.
“We want disciplined players so that when they make the national side, we don’t have problems.
“If there’s no discipline from the top then the whole structure falls.”
He encouraged players to respect their coaches, managers and officials in order to develop their skills and become better footballers.
“We have the National Soccer League season coming up in October,” he said. “We are also working behind the scenes to build pathways to have a professional league in 2021. We don’t want it to be just a national league but we are looking at expanding it across the region.
“Good things are in the pipeline, my appeal to players is to have respect and discipline which are two important factors.”
Kapi Natto also praised the 22 teams participating in the Southern Besta Cup.
Meanwhile, Kapi Natto says PNGFA is still fixing its administration and Fifa funding has been restricted until such time.

  • Start sending teams to Brisbane to give players and teams an indication to where they are at.Soccer is growing very rapidly in Australia and it’s the best place to PNG to be looking.
